Homes for Sale in Holladay
Holladay was settled in 1847 by a group of Mormon pioneers known as the Mississippi Company and became the first village to be established away from the Great Salt Lake. John Holladay of Alabama was one of the pioneers who came to this area of the Salt Lake Valley and stayed in this area after discovering a free-flowing, spring-fed stream which they named Spring Creek. Today, Spring Creek is near what is now Kentucky Avenue. Holladay and a few men built dugouts along the stream and stayed during winter. Many families flocked to the area the next spring to build homes and tend to the land.
Today the city of Holladay is known for its well-constructed older homes, heavily wooded lots, the lack of commercial development, and the preservation of open space. Homes in Holladay have more square footage and include larger lots with even some estates. Holladay is a well-established and wealthy area of the Salt Lake Valley.
