It all started with a fake Gucci watch in New York City’s Chinatown ⌚

I was about 15 or 16 years old and in New York with some classmates for a school theater trip. 🗽

I had been to NYC previously and I was mesmerized by the haggling of knock-off goods on the street. This is back in the early ’90s when the city wasn’t as…let’s say, glamorous, as it is today.

That day I was in Chinatown, I haggled my best for the Gucci watch. I even walked away as they said, “no, come back.”. That was my first taste of negotiation!

As an adult, I would negotiate my own contracts for being an on-air radio personality. My time in broadcast radio contains many adventures, and the chance to negotiate with some of the top talent agents while booking artists for concerts. I remember how nervous I was the first time I had to negotiate with Ice Cube’s agent. This agent was also representing actors like Leonardo DiCaprio at the time. Over the years I became an expert at my craft and was comfortable negotiating the best deals when booking concerts. 🏟️

In the last few years I have studied negotiation tactics by former FBI terrorism negotiators. I have worked on those skills to better serve my clients.

Yesterday, I was given the opportunity to train a small portion of my skills to our Brokerage, Mansell Real Estate. 🏢⛰️

The Best Negotiation for Sellers and Buyers

It was fun going over how I won my clients their negotiations, and told stories of how I have had the opposing side realizing that the Seller or Buyer I was representing got everything they wanted. The training was well received, and I offered to go in more depth and detail with a 6-week course for our agents at Mansell Real Estate.

To my surprise, nearly everyone who attended is going to take a deeper dive into my negotiation strategies and tactics. One that that has become evident to me working in Real Estate in Utah is that the agents at Mansell Real Estate are some of the most educated and well trained Realtors in Utah.

I’m honored to be thought of so highly that anyone wanted to hear what I had to say. Here’s to learning new strategies and techniques and actually implementing them! 🍻
