Homes for Sale in Kearns
Named after Utah’s U.S. Senator Thomas Kearns, the township of Kearns is most known as the home of the Olympic Oval, a speed skating oval built for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. This is the ice that was made famous by Apolo Ono as he emerged as the face of short-track speed skating. The Olympic Oval is known as one of the fastest ice surfaces in the world. Many Olympic athletes continue to train for future winter games at this facility.
Kearns is a former Army Air base having been established during World War II as a training facility. After World War II the old streets and foundations of buildings were used as a guide for the new town. Many homes were built quickly as Kearns was becoming one of the first suburbs of Salt Lake City. The majority of Kearns is built on the old lake bed of Lake Bonneville – known today as The Great Salt Lake. Kearns remains a top suburb of Salt Lake City today with many households having children under 18 years old.
