Utah is home to the Greatest Snow On Earth, and if you’re planning a trip to Salt Lake City to enjoy our amazing mountains and epic powder then you’ll want to know where the best ski and snowboard shops are in the valley. You may even be a local who…gasp!…has never been on ski’s or a snowboard before and you’re wondering where to go for the best gear. You can even find discount lift passes at these retail locations.
Salt Lake City is well-known as a ski destination and is home to some of the best ski resorts in the country. Many people skip the Salt Lake side of the Wasatch Front and head directly to Park City. There is a lot to offer in Park City, so please don’t get me wrong. However, for the purposes of this blog, and to fill you in on what the locals know, you’d be missing out if you didn’t think about shreddin’ the gnar on the Salt Lake side. As of this writing, 4 of the top 5 snowiest ski resorts in the United States are located in Utah. Not only that, most of them are located on the Salt Lake side of the mountains – sorry, Park City.
What are the resorts on the Salt Lake side of the Wasatch Front? There are two canyons that are home to four resorts. Inside Big Cottonwood Canyon you’ll find Brighton Ski Resort and Solitude Ski Resort, and at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon is the home of Alta Ski Area and Snowbird.
Luckily some of the best ski and snowboard shops in Salt Lake City are located in neighboring Millcreek. Driving West from I-215 down 3300 South you’ll come across “Shred Row” in Millcreek. Shred Row has 5 different retailers that cater to the ski, snowboard, and skate crowd. Many of these retailers have been in their very locations for decades and have an extremely knowledgeable staff.
